Things to Do

The phrase, 'the Middle East' was actually coined by the British to signify the region between Europe in the west and Asia in the far east. Depending on different interpretations, there are around 14 countries within the Middle East including Israel, Iran, Jordan, Oman, United Arab Emirates and Lebanon. As such, this region encompasses many fascinating historic sights, the remains of medieval traditions and beautiful seaside resort towns.

For many, a trip to the Middle East means a trip to Dubai for a taste of modern luxury, glitz and glamour. Here, you can stay on man-made islands, play golf or even ski in the desert, and shop up a storm with an ample array of markets and luxury boutiques. Nearby, Abu Dhabi offers a more traditional view of the Arab Emirates, with luxurious accommodation and stunning reglious sites such as the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. Of course it's not without its man-made wonders either, with Yas Waterword and Ferrari World proving popular with tourists.

Next on the agenda could be Israel to appreciate the medieval beauty of the old town of Jerusalem. Also in Israel, it's worth investigating the fortress of Masada in the Jordan Valley, swimming in the Dead Sea and admiring the Sea of Galilee in the north. From Israel, head across the border into Jordan to admire the incredible facades at Petra and the Roman city of Jerash. For a beach holiday with garunteed hot weather, Oman is quickly becoming a hotspot for luxury getaways with azure ocean views.
