We love Bali so much that it's actually a little embarrassing. In fact, it's been stealing the show from the rest of Indonesia for years! Easy to see why, though. Incredible beaches, lush landscapes, looming mountains and a fascinating culture mean this small volcanic island has no shortage of big draws. Both the perfect honeymoon destination and a great spot for adventure, Nusa Dua boasts some of the island’s most luxurious resorts, while chic Seminyak offers boutique shopping and world-class spas. The cultural heart of Bali is located in Ubud, where local artisans can be found sculpting. And if you want to learn to surf, head to Canggu. The list is endless. Things to Do in Bali
This luxurious corner of Southern Bali is known for it’s collection of world class hotels which line pristine beaches and it’s superb infrastructure such as a high-end shopping complex and well-manicured 18 hole golf course. The afforementioned gorgeous beachfront hotel rooms which effortlessly blend into idyllic white sand beaches that make Nusa Dua the ideal honeymoon destination.
12 miles from Denpasar, perched on a rocky outcrop, sits Tanah Lot. Tanah Lot’s literal translation is “land in the sea” which describes it perfectly. A Balinese temple – on of the seven sea temples around the Balinese coast – sits on top of the rock and provides an incredibly photogenic scene, especially at sunset.
No visit to Bali would be complete without tasting the delicious traditional dish of Balinese Suckling Pig (or, as it’s known locally, Babi Guling). The meal is traditionally served at celebration meals such as weddings, funerals and birthdays. The dish is, as the name suggests, pork, which has been lathered in bumbu (spice paste) and spit roasted for 5-6 hours.
The primary reason that many are lured to this particular isle is the beaches. The beaches in Bali are amongst the best in the world. Choose the perfect beach for you in our 10 best beaches in Bali article.
The black sand beaches of Amed in the North Eastern corner of Bali are worth travelling to see. Their remoteness keeps them relatively people-free and the sunsets behind Mt. Agung are indescribable. Whilst you are here do not miss out on the opportunity to snorkel or dive and definitely do not miss out on the opportunity to sample the local cuisine, the seafood here is also amongst the best in Bali.
Make the short trip up to the tranquil town of Ubud and find yourself surrounded by temples and rice paddies. This beautiful town is the perfect place to soak up the more cultural side of bali or even indulge in a cooking class.
When to Go to Bali
With its close proximity to the equator, Bali is blessed with a warm, sunny climate where the temperature rarely fluctuates much from 30°C. The tropical weather draws year-round sun-seekers to the island’s beaches and warm seas, and with no ‘bad’ time to go, the best month to visit is dependent on your interests.
The dry season from April to September enjoys low humidity and temperatures sit around 27 to 30°C. This season is the most popular to visit as it coincides with European summer and Australia holidays.
The wet season takes place from October to March with higher humidity and rain, although the rain is quite sporadic. If you’re looking to avoid the crowds, this is a still a great time to visit.

Bemos (a public minibus style of transport) and Ojeks (a motorbike that takes paying passengers) are the most common ways of getting around Bali. While these transport styles are cheap, particularly if you haggle, they aren’t always the safest. Metered taxis are also available, mainly in the south of Bali. If you prefer to go it alone, motorcycle, scooter and bicycle rentals are common in Bali too, just be aware that the roads can be hazardous.
